Interior Secretary Eduardo Año welcomes the plan to appoint former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Benhur Abalos Jr., as his successor.
According to the secretary, he has already worked with Abalos this time of the pandemic he saw how well it led the COVID-19 response in the National Capital Region which resulted in a decrease in virus cases as well as the successful rollout of vaccination in the region.
Año added that Abalos’ experience as the former mayor of Mandaluyong and chairman of the MMDA will help him lead the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
He also hopes it will continue the agency’s campaign against crime, illegal drugs, corruption, and terrorism.
Friday when the camp of presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced. the planned appointment of Abalos as the next DILG secretary.
Abalos resigned as MMDA chairman to serve as Marcos’ campaign manager.
