The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is scheduled to discuss at the upcoming en banc meeting on Wednesday how it will address the issue of some candidates not attending the debates they have organized.
COMELEC Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan told reporters after the first vice presidential leg of Pilipinas Debates 2022 last night, that the commission will consider issuing a resolution to compel candidates to participate.
It was found out that Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. failed to attend the first round of the presidential debate last Saturday, and last night there were two for the vice president, Reps. Lito Atienza and Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
If you recall, vice presidential bet Walden Bello told the media that he was considering skipping the next vice presidential debate unless Bongbong and Duterte showed up.
Bello and I also found that his frustration with the candidates’ snub had caused him to sing in the debate instead of walking out as he had originally planned.

The COMELEC also said recently that candidates who do not attend their organized debate will no longer be included in the commission’s free online campaign.
