The number of those arrested by the Philippine National Police (PNP) is still on the rise, reaching 1,931 individuals for violating the election gun ban being implemented this campaign period.
In a statement, the PNP said 1,871 of them were civilians, 35 were security guards, 16 were police officers, and nine were military personnel.
They were caught in a total of 1,822 operations conducted by the police, of which 1,490 firearms, 8,188 pieces of ammunition, and 703 deadly weapons were seized.
In the latest data still among the top five regions with the most arrested violators are the National Capital Region (NCR) with 654 violators, followed by Central Visayas with 212; Central Luzon with 126; Calabarzon who recorded 203 violators; and Western Visayas with 110 violators of such law arrested.
From January 9 to June 8, any carrying of firearms or any deadly weapons outside the home and in all public places is prohibited in accordance with Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution No. 10728.
Anyone who violates such order shall face at least one year but also not more than six years imprisonment and shall not be subject to any probation.
Meanwhile, law enforcers are exempted from this but they must have authorization from the Comelec and wear an agency-prescribed uniform while on duty during the election period.
