The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has taken the lead in advancing trade facilitation efforts during the 6th Virtual Meeting of the Output 4 Working Group under the ARISE Plus Philippines Project.
Chaired by Atty. Julito Doria, Deputy Collector of the Port of Manila (POM) and Vice-Chairperson of the BOC Project Team for Strengthened Trade Facilitation Capacity Building, the public-private sector working group meeting discussed planned activities for February 2024–February 2025. The focus areas included Integrated Risk Management (IRM), the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Program, and e-commerce clearance and taxation. The meeting also covered continued support for the operationalization of the Philippine Trade Facilitation Committee (PTFC), marking a significant milestone for both BOC and the ARISE Plus Philippines Project.
Representing Output 4 Chairperson and BOC Assistant Commissioner Atty. Vincent Philip C. Maronilla, Port of Manila (POM) Deputy Collector Atty. Julito Doria emphasized in his opening remarks, “Over the past three (3) years, we have conducted numerous workshops aimed at bolstering the Philippine Trade Facilitation Committee’s development. Studies on the development of an integrated risk management system, enhancement of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program, and identification of an e-commerce tax regime have also been initiated. As we embark on the fourth year of this project, the BOC eagerly anticipates more meaningful and high-impact outcomes under the Output 4 Working Group. We aspire to undertake initiatives that are not only sustainable but also paramount in our ongoing pursuit of trade facilitation.”
As the BOC continues to push trade facilitation initiatives under the leadership of Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio, he stated that “In line with the five-point priority program, this collaboration highlights the dedication to streamline procedures and enable safer commerce. The BOC remains committed to strengthening cross-sector collaborations to ensure the continued success of trade facilitation initiatives.”
