Manila South Harbor (MSH) celebrated a significant milestone with the completion of strategic infrastructure upgrades by Asian Terminals Incorporated (ATI) and global logistics leader DP World on May 2, 2025. The project, which involved a total investment of Php 5.7 billion, highlights a shared commitment to enhancing trade efficiency, supporting economic growth, and modernizing port operations in the Philippines.
Bureau of Customs – Port of Manila (BOC-POM) District Collector Alexander Gerard E. Alviar, with his Deputy Collectors Florante P. Ricarte and Atty. Gerard N. Turiano attended the event. The BOC plays a crucial role in ensuring seamless and secure trade.
Collector Alviar emphasized that the expanded capacity and modern facilities at MSH will significantly improve customs performance. This includes expediting cargo clearance, reducing port congestion, and enhancing trade compliance and enforcement measures.
“This is a vital step in aligning our customs processes with global standards and supporting the government’s trade facilitation and digitalization agenda,” Collector Alviar stated.
The upgraded MSH now features an extended Pier 3 berth exceeding 600 meters, yard space capable of accommodating up to 20,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), and two new Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes. These enhancements increase MSH’s annual throughput capacity by over 25%, escalating it from 1.45 million to more than 2 million TEUs. This expansion allows MSH to handle larger vessels and greater cargo volumes with improved efficiency and safety.
Other distinguished guests at the event included Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, DP World Group Chairman and CEO His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Philippine Ports Authority General Manager Jay Santiago, and ATI President Eusebio Tanco, along with various stakeholders and industry partners.
This modernization aligns with the Bureau of Customs’ initiative to achieve faster cargo clearance, increased revenue collection, and enhanced border protection under the leadership of Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio.
