A fake doctor posing as a medical professional has been busted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in a daring entrapment operation in Manila.

A Chinese national pretending to be a doctor was arrested on March 12, 2026 by operatives of the NBI–National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) after authorities caught him illegally practicing medicine without a license.

The operation stemmed from intelligence reports exposing the suspect’s questionable medical activities. Acting quickly, NBI agents launched surveillance and uncovered a disturbing reality: the foreign national was examining patients, diagnosing illnesses, and offering medical advice despite having absolutely no legal authority to practice medicine in the Philippines.

Then the trap was sprung.

An undercover NBI operative posed as a patient seeking medical consultation. The suspect fell straight into the sting, conducting a physical examination and issuing a diagnosis—sealing his fate.

Minutes later, agents moved in and placed the fake doctor under arrest.

Verification with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) exposed the full extent of the deception. Official records confirmed that the suspect is NOT a licensed physician and has never obtained board certification or a special permit to practice medicine in the Philippines since 1997.

The suspect now faces charges for violation of Republic Act No. 2382, or the Medical Act of 1959, and has been presented for inquest proceedings before the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office.

But for NBI Director Atty. Melvin A. Matibag, the arrest sends a powerful warning to anyone daring to gamble with public health.

Director Matibag delivered a strong message:

“The National Bureau of Investigation will relentlessly pursue individuals who deceive the public and endanger lives through illegal medical practices. We will not allow fraudsters to exploit our people. Those who break the law will be found, arrested, and prosecuted.”

Matibag also urged the public to verify the credentials of doctors through the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) before seeking medical treatment.

The warning is loud and clear:
Fake doctors, medical impostors, and illegal practitioners will be hunted down.

And under *Director Melvin Matibag’s watch, the NBI is making sure there is no place to hide.
