SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—A new sheriff has arrived at the Port of Subic, and he means business. Newly appointed Bureau of Customs (BOC) District Collector Arnaldo M. Saulong, a former top-ranking BOC Director, made a powerful entrance with a high-level courtesy call on SBMA Chairman and Administrator Engr. Eduardo José L. Aliño.
Saulong, known inside Customs circles as a battle-tested official with years of leadership experience, wasted no time in flexing authority as he moved to tighten coordination, boost trade operations, and strengthen border security at one of the country’s busiest gateways.
Joining him during the key meeting was outgoing District Collector Noel C. Estanislao, signaling a smooth but decisive transfer of command at the Port of Subic.
Insiders say Saulong’s appointment sends a loud message: the BOC is serious about appointing seasoned, aggressive leaders to strategic posts. His track record as a former BOC Director has made him one of the bureau’s most respected figures, now tasked to raise the bar in Subic.
During the meeting, Saulong vowed to sustain reforms, crush inefficiency, and further intensify partnerships with agencies inside the Freeport. He also thanked SBMA for its continued support and stressed that teamwork is crucial in making Subic a stronger magnet for global trade.
Chairman Aliño welcomed Saulong and assured full backing from SBMA, saying Customs remains a key force in protecting borders while keeping legal trade moving fast.
The showdown against smuggling, red tape, and delays is expected to heat up under Saulong’s watch. With a former BOC Director now at the helm, many believe the Port of Subic is entering a tougher, faster, and more aggressive era.
