President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has stepped in—hard and decisive—to end the long-standing misery of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs whose balikbayan boxes were left rotting in ports due to irresponsible and fly-by-night freight forwarders.
In a clear show of political will and compassion, the President approved the release of government funds to allow the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to deliver abandoned balikbayan boxes straight to the doorsteps of OFW families—no red tape, no excuses, no more suffering.
This bold move, anchored on a whole-of-government approach, answers the BOC’s urgent call for
national government support amid the alarming rise in cases of fraudulent forwarders who collected payments, disappeared, and left OFWs’ hard-earned packages stranded in ports.
With the funding now unlocked, the BOC is moving full throttle—settling port charges, clearing fees, and mobilizing logistics—to fast-track processing and ensure that every rescued box reaches the families it was meant for.
Leading the internal charge is BOC Deputy Commissioner for Internal Administration Group, Mike Fermin, who is overseeing the operational muscle behind the effort—making sure funds are translated into action, and action into results. No bureaucratic paralysis. No delays. Just delivery.
At the frontline, NAIA Port District Collector Atty. Yas Mapa is ensuring tight coordination on the ground, pushing for swift clearance and orderly release so boxes trapped for months—or even years—finally make it home.
Under President Marcos Jr.’s directive, OFWs no longer need to line up at Customs offices or navigate paperwork nightmares. The boxes will be delivered directly to their homes—an acknowledgment that these packages are not cargo, but symbols of sacrifice, love, and survival.
The BOC, working closely with partner agencies, is racing against the clock to complete deliveries before the end of the holiday season—turning what was once a story of neglect into a powerful message of government action.
This is governance with heart—and teeth.
A President who listens.
A Customs leadership that acts.
And OFWs who, at long last, get what they were promised.
