MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs–Port of Manila (BOC–POM) has successfully passed the Internal Quality Audit (IQA) conducted by the Bureau’s Interim Internal Quality Management Systems Office (IIQMSO) on March 25–26, 2026, reinforcing the Port’s commitment to maintaining high operational standards and quality management practices.

The audit assessed the Port’s compliance with established quality management systems and operational procedures. Results showed three Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs) and two positive findings, reflecting both the Port’s adherence to standards and areas identified for further enhancement.

Among the key commendations from the audit team was the Port of Manila’s implementation of a paperless management system to reduce documentation bottlenecks and improve efficiency in port operations. The auditors also cited the Port’s proactive measures in addressing emerging geopolitical developments that may affect trade and customs operations.

Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno said the audit outcome reflects the Bureau’s continuing efforts to strengthen institutional reforms and improve service delivery across all ports nationwide.

At the Port level, District Collector Rizalino Jose C. Torralba expressed appreciation to the IIQMSO audit team led by Joseph G. Escasio for their assessment and recommendations that will further enhance the Port’s quality management systems.

Torralba also acknowledged the contributions of the Port’s leadership team, including Deputy Collector for Assessment Florante Ricarte, Deputy Collector for Administration Marilou A. Cabigon, and Deputy Collector for Operations Atty. Gerard Turiano, whose coordination and oversight ensured that the Port’s processes and personnel were fully prepared for the audit.

The POM Quality Management Unit, headed by Cabigon, was also recognized for its role in ensuring compliance with quality standards and facilitating preparations for the evaluation.

Officials said the successful audit outcome reflects the collective commitment of Port of Manila personnel to continuous improvement, operational integrity, and efficient public service, aligned with the reform agenda of the Bureau of Customs under Commissioner Nepomuceno.
