MANILA, Philippines — Executives of Unilever-RFM Ice Cream, Inc. paid a courtesy visit to the Bureau of Customs–Port of Manila (POM) on Tuesday, meeting with District Collector Rizalino Jose C. Torralba to discuss importation procedures, compliance measures, and operational coordination aimed at improving cargo clearance efficiency.
The meeting focused on streamlining processes while ensuring strict adherence to customs regulations. Both sides exchanged views on sustaining transparent transactions and strengthening collaboration between the port and private stakeholders.
Collector Torralba emphasized that the Port of Manila remains committed to enhancing transparency, reducing procedural bottlenecks, and enforcing customs laws consistently.
“We continue to refine our systems to make processes more efficient without compromising regulatory standards,” Torralba said, underscoring POM’s dual mandate of trade facilitation and border protection.
He added that the port is pursuing reforms designed to speed up legitimate trade flows while maintaining vigilance against violations.
The initiative aligns with the broader directive of Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, who has called on all ports nationwide to intensify revenue collection efforts, strengthen border controls, and deepen engagement with compliant industry partners.
Under Commissioner Nepomuceno’s leadership, the Bureau has reinforced modernization efforts aimed at improving operational efficiency while safeguarding government revenues. He has repeatedly stressed that trade facilitation must go hand in hand with strict compliance and enforcement.
The courtesy visit concluded with both parties expressing their commitment to sustained communication and constructive engagement.
The Port of Manila reiterated that it will continue fostering partnerships with the private sector in support of efficient cargo movement, revenue generation, and the protection of the country’s borders.
