MANILA — The Bureau of Customs–Port of Manila (BOC–POM) has successfully met its revenue collection targets for January and February 2026, prompting District Collector Rizalino Jose “RJ” C. Torralba to recognize the port’s offices and personnel for their strong performance during an Awarding Ceremony held on March 4, 2026.
The ceremony honored the collective efforts of the port’s workforce after all POM offices received Certificates of Commendation for achieving the February 2026 revenue target, marking the second consecutive month that the country’s busiest customs port met its assigned collection goal.
Torralba, who presides over one of the largest and most active cargo gateways in the Philippines, commended the dedication and professionalism of customs personnel who contributed to the port’s sustained revenue performance.
“The success of the Port of Manila is a result of the hard work, discipline, and teamwork of our personnel,” Torralba said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining consistent performance in the months ahead.
Key officials drive operations
Supporting Torralba in managing the port’s operations is Deputy Collector for Operations Atty. Gerard Turiano and Deputy Collector for Assessment Florante Ricarte, both of whom play critical roles in ensuring the efficiency of cargo processing and the accuracy of customs revenue collection.
Turiano oversees operational activities related to cargo movement, enforcement, and compliance, while Ricarte supervises the port’s assessment units responsible for valuation, classification, and the proper computation of duties and taxes.
Customs officials said the coordination among these offices has been essential in maintaining operational efficiency while safeguarding government revenues.
Assessment Sections 1–15 recognized
A significant factor behind the port’s strong revenue performance was the work of Assessment Sections 1 to 15, the frontline units tasked with processing import documents and ensuring the proper assessment of duties and taxes on shipments entering the country.
These sections handled large volumes of commercial importations while ensuring compliance with customs laws and regulations, helping the port achieve its two consecutive monthly collection targets for the start of 2026.
Secretariat cited for conference hosting
During the ceremony, the POM Local Secretariat also received Certificates of Appreciation for its role in organizing and supporting the successful hosting of the BOC Collectors’ Conference at the Port of Manila in February.
Officials noted that the Secretariat’s coordination and logistical support ensured the smooth conduct of the event attended by customs leaders from across the country.
Supporting national revenue goals
The Port of Manila remains one of the Bureau of Customs’ most critical revenue-generating ports, handling a significant share of the country’s import volume.
Torralba reaffirmed the port’s commitment to support the reform agenda and operational goals of Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, particularly in strengthening revenue collection and improving service delivery.
With two collection targets already achieved early in the year, customs officials said the Port of Manila aims to sustain its performance as it continues to play a central role in the Bureau’s nationwide revenue program.
