Once again, the Bureau of Customs–Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) proves its mettle in border protection as it intercepted ₱109.8 million worth of shabu concealed in shipments from Vietnam — a resounding victory in the government’s all-out campaign against illegal drugs.
The October 6 operation, carried out in tight coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG), was led by the Paircargo Assessment Composite Division under the supervision of Special Deputy Collector Dr. Siegfred L. Manaois. His team’s sharp profiling and precise assessment played a critical role in detecting the suspicious packages that arrived from Hanoi, Vietnam.

Declared as e-commerce consolidated shipments, the cargo was flagged during x-ray screening, prompting a 100% physical examination. The inspection revealed three styrofoam boxes filled with 26 packages of white crystalline substances ingeniously concealed alongside coffee powder. Field testing conducted by PDEA and CAIDTF confirmed the presence of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) with a total weight of 16,150 grams and an estimated street value of ₱109,820,000.00.
The success of this operation reflects not only the vigilance of the Customs personnel but also the leadership and discipline instilled by District Collector Alexandra Y. Lumontad, whose management style continues to emphasize precision, coordination, and accountability.
“The success of this operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven profiling and inter-agency coordination. BOC-NAIA will continue to uphold its mandate to ensure that our airports remain secure against any form of smuggling or illegal drug activity.”
— District Collector Alexandra Y. Lumontad

Under Lumontad’s leadership, BOC-NAIA has consistently proven to be one of the Bureau’s strongest frontline offices, with operations guided by strategy, teamwork, and unwavering integrity. Meanwhile, Dr. Manaois, as Special Deputy Collector, continues to earn distinction for his technical competence and operational precision — qualities that reinforce the Bureau’s broader institutional reforms under Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno.

Commissioner Nepomuceno lauded the team’s decisive action, emphasizing that such interceptions reflect the Bureau’s steadfast commitment to preventing drug syndicates from exploiting legitimate trade channels.

This latest interdiction serves as a powerful testament to the synergy between leadership and action — with Collector Lumontad ensuring top-level coordination, and Special Deputy Collector Manaois executing on-ground precision. Together, they embody the Bureau’s renewed spirit of vigilance and integrity, aligning perfectly with Commissioner Nepomuceno’s vision of a Customs service anchored on professionalism, discipline, and uncompromising border protection.
