Parañaque City has scored a major victory in public healthcare after earning prestigious recognition from the Department of Health (DOH) for its outstanding leadership, governance, and commitment to strengthening the local health system.
Under the leadership of Mayor Edwin L. Olivarez, the city was recognized during the Local Health System Recognition: Leadership and Governance Towards Universal Health Care held on October 27, 2026, at the Richmond Hotel Ortigas.
The recognition underscores Parañaque’s continuing efforts to deliver accessible, effective, and quality healthcare services to its constituents.
But beyond the plaques and awards, the achievement reflects a bigger accomplishment: a local government that puts the health and welfare of its people at the center of governance.
Among the major areas highlighted by the DOH were Parañaque’s effective utilization of the Special Health Fund, promotion of best health practices, and implementation of excellent governance in health services.
The city was also recognized as an Outstanding Local Government Unit for its integrated Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and Purok Kalusugan initiatives.
These programs demonstrate how community-based healthcare services can bring medical assistance closer to ordinary families, particularly senior citizens, vulnerable communities, and residents who need immediate access to health services.
OLIVAREZ: HEALTH IS THE CITY’S REAL INVESTMENT
Mayor Olivarez’s leadership and commitment to public service remain central to the city’s healthcare initiatives.
As the mayor emphasized in his message:
“Ang kalusugan ang tunay na puhunan para sa mas maunlad na lungsod.”
The mayor’s message reflects the administration’s belief that a progressive city cannot be measured by infrastructure and economic growth alone, but also by the health, safety, and well-being of its residents.
The recognition likewise shines a spotlight on the dedication and sacrifices of Barangay Health Workers, whose tireless service brings healthcare assistance directly to communities.
From health education and preventive care to community-based medical services, these frontline workers serve as an important link between the city government and its constituents.
NOT JUST AWARDS — A BIG WIN FOR PARAÑAQUE RESIDENTS!
For Olivarez, the DOH recognition is more than an institutional achievement. It is a challenge to further strengthen healthcare programs and ensure that no Parañaque resident is left behind.
The city government vowed to continue expanding its health initiatives so every Parañaqueño can enjoy a healthier, safer, and better quality of life.
With its latest DOH recognition, Parañaque City has demonstrated that strong leadership, effective governance, and dedicated community health workers can make a real difference.
KUDOS TO MAYOR EDWIN L. OLIVAREZ AND THE ENTIRE PARAÑAQUE HEALTH TEAM!
The message is clear: when public health becomes a priority, the entire city wins!
